Two men have been arrested after officers stung a car with thousands of pounds of stolen tools inside. In the early hours of Friday 14 November, a caller reported hearing power tools and sounds of a burglary at a business in Melbourne. Officers from our dog section were the first to attend and spotted a vehicle leaving the area. After failing to stop, the vehicle was stung by an Armed Response Unit, who arrested the driver after a short off-road pursuit. The passenger’s attempt to run away was cut short by Police Dog Ultor and his handler. One man, aged 53, was charged with burglary, failure to stop for police and driving without a license. The other man, aged 25, was charged with burglary and racially abusing a police officer. PC Alex Boniface, who is leading Operation Lockhead, an operation to tackle burglary and autocrime in South Derbyshire, said: “This was a great response by local officers, armed response officers and our dog unit – everyone played a part to ensure that these two men were caught and arrested. “Thanks to a quick report from a member of the public about their concerns, and a fast police response, we will be able to reunite the owners with their stolen items. “The message to all would-be burglars is clear, we will use all the powers we have available to bring you to justice, and with amazing dogs like PD Ultor on your tail, your night might end with more of a bite than you intended.” | ||
